This is truly a special occasion that the children absolutely adore,
despite occasionally losing a limb or two. We don't let these
things upset us. In fact, we rarely, if ever think about
them! At first, the kiddies are delighted to discover a
brightly
colored cluster bomb, but their flesh is torn apart when they handle
the
explosive munitions. What can we do? It's tradition!
The little children especially love Lockheed's chocolate CBU-87/B,
otherwise known as

kind!
Nope. It's filled with 202 lethal chocolate eggs that explode with
flavor! It knocks 'em dead!

these children had
their lives blown apart by insidious unexploded American-made ordnance

Cluster bombs are small explosive bomblets carried in a
large cannister
that opens in mid-air, scattering them over a wide area. The bomblets
may be delivered by aircraft, rocket, or by artillery projectiles.
Clusterbombs, manufactured by
Lockheed-Martin ( of
Bethesda, Maryland )
and
dropped in the last 72 hours of the barbaric invasion of Lebanon last
summer, can lay dormant for years. Clusterbombs kill 3 civilians each
day in Lebanon, one of which is a child.
The "bomblets" look like toys lying on the ground, and children pick
them up, with the expected and intended result.
Remember when hurricane Katrina hit and Bush
just hit the
snooze alarm and went back to sleep? He and his criminal band let a
major American city get
wiped off the map. Protecting America was not on their to-do list.
But when Israel invaded Lebanon last Summer, this same sleepy-head
'president' was a whirlwind of activity in the rush to get these
weapons of genocide into the hands the invaders.

IF YOU DON'T like something your government is doing, you should be
able to come to Washington, D.C., and say so in peaceful protest. You
shouldn't have to worry that the color of your shirt will get you
arrested. Or that police will call in the FBI to grill you about your
political or religious views. It's distressing, then, when authorities
in the nation's capital show so little regard for the basic American
tenet of free assembly and trample on the rights of citizens.
A lawsuit brought by a group of protesters in a 2002 incident paints a
disturbing picture of the actions of D.C. police and the FBI, and it
raises questions about whether there was an attempt to hide some of
those actions. As reported by The Post's Carol D. Leonnig, the
protesters not only were wrongly arrested (the charges were dropped and
any records expunged), but they were also interrogated by the FBI,
allegedly including inappropriate questions about their and others'
beliefs. The protesters say the interrogations were videotaped, and one
aim of their lawsuit is to find out what happened to those records.
There's no question that police should investigate suspicious behavior,
particularly in this era of heightened concern over terrorism. Yet the
worst offense of these protesters is that they were wearing black;
police were apparently confusing fashion with dangerous anarchism. That
they were arrested on trespassing charges even after showing they had a
parking pass for the garage where they were detained suggests that
public safety was not the paramount concern. Either the arrests were a
pretense to gather intelligence or a bid to discourage dissent --
perhaps both.

The involvement of the FBI, which is supposed to monitor domestic
groups only when there is clear suspicion of criminal activity, is
particularly disturbing. For years, authorities refused even to
acknowledge that FBI agents were present in the garage, only to have
their presence confirmed by a newly discovered document. What makes
that revelation even more troubling is that city officials had vowed to
the court that no such document existed. Was that oversight an honest
mistake or a coverup?
Both the FBI and D.C. police have stumbled in the area of
individual
rights -- the FBI of late with its misuse of "national security
letters" to obtain private information about U.S. citizens. The
District's most notable transgression was the infamous mass arrests in
Pershing Park, also during anti-globalization protests in 2002. Police
officials say they have reformed their ways since that costly incident.
We would like to think so. But the apparent nonchalance of local and
federal officials about getting to the bottom of what happened to those
people dressed in black is not reassuring.
[N.B. This webmaster was one of those arrested on September
27, 2002 in the peaceful demonstration at Pershing Park. We were given
no order to disperse, the riot police just moved in and cuffed every
single person. We were hog-tied for 30 hours on a gymnasium floor,
denied bathroom privileges, our personal property confiscated, we were
humiliated and greatly inconvenienced. Props out to Mara
Verheyden-Hilliard and Carl Messineo for their hard work in defending
our most basic rights. ]

torture, calls for occupying foreign oil fields, and argues for

The release of the notorious anti-Cuba terrorist Luis Posada Carriles
to Miami, could be imminent. Federal Judge Kathleen Cardone ordered
Posada released on $350,000 bond, and took further steps today to free
him. This man is the mastermind behind the 1976 bombing of a Cuban
airliner in which 73 people died. He was a key operator in the
Iran-Contra operation to arm the Nicaraguan contras; he personally
tortured and murdered Venezuelan people in the 1970s as head of the
DISIP secret police, and he boasted to the New York Times in 1998 that
he paid mercenaries to plant bombs in Havana hotels to sow terror among
foreign tourists. One of those bombs killed an Italian tourist, Fabio
Di Celmo.
The responsibility for freeing Posada lies with the Bush
administration. Acting on behalf of Bush, U.S. Attorney General Alberto
Gonzales to refuses to classify Posada a terrorist, or as a danger to
the community, which is required for his continued detention. Gonzales
and Bush are refusing to honor Venezuela's extradition request so he
can be tried there for the Cuban plane bombing, where he plotted the
heinous crime. If he is not extradited he should be prosecuted for his
crimes in the U.S.

Luis Posada Carriles
(born February 15, 1928) is an anti-Castro and
anti-communist fugitive who is alleged to have been involved in
numerous violent terrorist plots, including Operation 40, hotel
bombings and the 1976 bombing of a Cubana Flight 455 in which
seventy-three people were killed, including the entire teenage Cuban
Olympic fencing team. He is also said to have been involved in
Operation Condor, namely in Orlando Letelier’s murder in
Washington,
D.C., a few weeks before Cubana de Aviación’s
explosion. Posadas has
confessed many of these crimes on several public interviews1

a Washington Post story from April 3, 2007. The article reports on
information uncovered from a lawsuit filed by the Partnership for Civil
Justice (PCJ) in defense of anti-war protesters who were arrested in
Washington DC on April 20, 2002 and then illegally interrogated by an
FBI Intelligence Unit. The ANSWER Coalition had organized a mass
demonstration of over 100,000 people that day in support of the
Palestinian people. Those arrested were simply participating in a mass
assembly protest and were detained and interrogated by the FBI when
they went back to the parking garage where their vehicles were parked.
The demonstrators were young and "dressed in black" which made them the
target of this now exposed FBI secret police tactic.
The Partnership for Civil Justice is a member group
of the
ANSWER
Coalition Steering Committee. PCJ attorneys have filed a number of
groundbreaking legal actions on behalf of wrongfully arrested
demonstrators, in support of the right to use Central Park for mass
assembly protests in New York City, the right of anti-war protestors to

Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) held a press
conference in Iraq. Both McCain and Graham charged that the media are
not giving the American people "the full picture of what's happening
here."
As evidence of progress, they spoke of the time they were able
to spend in the Bab al-Sharqi market, at which 88 people died in
suicide bomber attack on Jan. 22. "We went to the market and were just
really warmly welcomed. I bought five rugs for five bucks. And people
were engaging," said Graham.
What McCain and Graham didn't mention: CNN's Bob Franken noted today
that the senators' press conference was "held in the very, very, very
heavily secured Green Zone, the center city area of Baghdad."
Additionally, the "delegation was accompanied by heavily armed U.S.
troops when they were not in the Green Zone, site of the U.S. Embassy
and Iraqi government.
They traveled in armored military vehicles under
heavy guard."
Watch it:
Just last week, McCain told CNN that President Bush's
escalation is
working so well, "Gen. Petraeus goes out there [in Baghdad] almost
every day in an unarmed humvee." CNN's Iraq correspondent Michael Ware
said the reaction to McCain's claim among military sources was
"laughter down the line."
All well
and good
if your illegal imperial war is progressing well.
