1945
The U.S. House of Representatives calls for unrestricted immigration to
Palestine in order to establish a zionist commonwealth there.
1946 (Jan.) Anglo-American commission of inquiry visits Palestine and recommends continuation of the British Mandate.
1946 (Sept.) London Conference on the future of Palestine to consider British proposals for its division into Jewish and Arab provinces under a British High Commissioner. Representatives of some Arab governments attend the conference but no representatives of Palestinian Arabs or Zionists attend.
Zionist terrorist attacks against the British intensify.
1947 (Feb.) British decide to relinquish the Palestine Mandate.
(Apr.) UN General Assembly opens a special session on the Palestine problem.
(Nov.) UN recommends partition of Palestine.
1948 (May)
With Britain out of Palestine, the zionist immigrants proclaim the area
as the State of Israel. Arab armies invade Zionist colonies and reclaim
some Palestinian villages. The Arab state of Palestine is split into
three parts: some is taken and incorporated into Israel; the Gaza Strip
is held and governed by Egypt; and the West Bank of the Jordan River is
held by Jordan. The UN had proposed that Jerusalem and other holy
places become an internationally governed entity. During the fighting,
Jerusalem was divided into Israeli West and Jordanian East.
Members of the Irgun and Haganah Zionist military organizations detonate car bombs, shell and destroy Palestinian villages and neighborhoods, and build large weapons arsenals. Palestinian irregulars strike back but cannot match Zionist resources and organization.
Irgun and Stern Gang massacre 245 Palestinian inhabitants of Deir Yassin, a village near Jerusalem.
1948-50
Over 725,000 Palestinians are driven out of their homeland or flee the
fighting that accompanied the establishment of Israel. By 1950, more
than one million Palestinians live in UN-supported refugee camps in
Gaza, West Bank, Lebanon, and Jordan.

If Bush thinks the Beirut airport and Lebanese roads and bridges are legitimate targets in Israel’s war with Hezbollah because it is “…a central hub for the transfer of weapons and supplies to the Hezbollah terrorist organization…”, then U.S. airports, roads, bridges and Zionist “infrastructure” are legitimate targets for Arabs and Muslims having the right to defend themselves.
Mocking ALL justice, Bush just painted a bigger bull’s-eye on America. He and the Anglo/Zionist oligarchy he represents will be to blame when the next “terrorist” attack kills innocent Americans.
Senator Clinton, addressing a crowd of several thousand people, said the United States must show “solidarity and support” for Israel in the face of the “unwarranted, unprovoked” seizure of three Israeli soldiers by members of Hamas and Hezbollah, which she referred to as among “the new totalitarians of the 21st century.”
“We will stand with Israel because Israel is standing for American values as well as Israeli ones,” said Mrs. Clinton, who was joined by two dozen political and religious leaders on a stage along 42nd Street.

From a political message board:
Lebanon is the most democratic country in the middle east. They have a parliament and prime minister. They have freedom of speech and the press. And just last year they drove the Syrian occupation army out of their country. I was in Beirut last year and it is the most free, most western city in the Middle East I have visited. But now with Israel’s attacks against Lebanon, the fringe radical pro-Syrian elements in that country are saying “See, we told you so. We should have allowed the Syrian army to stay and protect us.”
There is now a real danger that because of Israel’s attacks on Lebanon that the next elected government will be more radical and more militant. It’s natural. After 9/11 Americans were angry and upset and wanted to protect themselves. The Lebanese will want the same.

Today, the Office of Management Budget projected a $296 billion federal deficit for fiscal year 2006. Bush held a press conference arguing that this is a vindication of his economic policies.
Actually, it would be the fourth largest deficit of all time. Here’s the top five:
1. 2004 (George W. Bush) $413 billion
2. 2003 (George W. Bush) $378 billion
3. 2005 (George W. Bush) $318 billion
4. 2006 (George W. Bush) $296 billion (projected)
5. 1992 (George H. W. Bush) $290 billion
When President Bush came into office, he inherited a surplus of $284 Billion. At that time, the Bush administration predicted a $516 billion surplus for 2006.
The fact that Bush now considers a $296 billion deficit an occasion to celebrate shows how far we’ve fallen.

With Huge Bay Cleanup Dream A Bust, Leaders Alter Strategy
By Michael D. Shear
Washington Post Staff Writer
Saturday, July 15, 2006; B03
RICHMOND, July 14—The leaders of Maryland, Virginia and the District conceded Friday that their attempt to win a Florida Everglades-style federal rescue of the Chesapeake Bay has all but died, but they pledged individual efforts to restore the region’s vital watershed.
Maryland Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R) and former Virginia governor Mark R. Warner (D) had said in December 2003 that they would seek about $12 billion from President Bush and Congress to finance a 10-year cleanup of what they called a national treasure.
“Given the retrenchment on Capitol Hill these days, it’s not on the top of our agenda,” Ehrlich said after a meeting with D.C. Mayor Anthony A. Williams (D) and Warner’s successor, Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D). “However, securing our existing funding streams is priority one,” Ehrlich said of state efforts to raise money for the bay.
Aides said Ehrlich’s comments reflect the recognition that the federal deficit has shot up, creating a vastly different budget reality.
But Ehrlich said he is optimistic about the region’s ability to restore the bay’s health over the next decade. “I do not share the pessimism at all,” he said.
And Kaine promised that even without federal help, current state leaders will be seen as the ones who solved the bay’s problems.
“This generation of leadership is going to be looked at as the solutions generation,” Kaine said after a 2 1/2 -hour session with his counterparts. He said the fight to include $200 million for bay cleanup in Virginia’s next budget “was one of the easiest ones, because it is a bipartisan consensus.”
Kaine has pledged to restrict 400,000 acres from development during his term. In 2004, Maryland passed the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Act, which includes a $30-per-household fee on water usage, to raise about $900 million to upgrade sewage plants.
In September, Kaine and Williams will join Ehrlich in Annapolis for a bay summit to discuss how to finance the cleanup.
Will Baker, president of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, praised efforts in Virginia and Maryland. But he said cleaning the bay of harmful nutrients flowing from developments will require more than local and state governments can provide. “I’m not ready to give up,” Baker said. “I would reject an assertion that federal money to restore the Chesapeake Bay is not in the future.”
Kaine said discussion of the Chesapeake Bay was part of a broader conversation among the three leaders about the need for regional cooperation. The meeting in Richmond was the sixth such summit, dating from Warner’s term.
The three made no announcements of major programs after dining on salmon with a Virginia bourbon-pecan glaze, oven-roasted potatoes, sweet corn muffins and Virginia peanut butter mousse with chocolate sauce.
But they voiced concern about recent federal cuts to funding for homeland security programs in the Washington area. Kaine said they discussed how communities in Indiana were ranked higher than the Washington area on one federal list of threats from terrorism.
The officials also talked about the need for improving the region’s transportation system. Ehrlich praised Kaine’s push for more road funds without endorsing his call for higher taxes.

Valerie Plame Wilson and Ambassador Joseph Wilson initiate a civil action against Vice President Cheney, Karl Rove, and Scooter Libby for violations of their Constitutional and other legal rights.
Washington, DC - Former CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson and her husband, former Ambassador Joseph Wilson, filed suit in federal court today against Vice President Dick Cheney, his former Chief of Staff I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, top Presidential advisor Karl Rove and other unnamed senior White House officials, for their role in the public disclosure of Valerie Wilson’s classified CIA status.
A copy of the Complaint as filed in court is attached, as is a page with excerpts from the Complaint.
The suit accuses the defendants of violating the Wilsons’ constitutional and other legal rights as a result of “a conspiracy among current and former high-level officials in the White House” to “discredit, punish and seek revenge against” Mr. Wilson for publicly disputing statements made by President Bush in his 2003 State of the Union address justifying the war in Iraq.
Iraq war tally likely to hit 500 billion dollars or more
CAPITOL HILL Congressional
auditors say the war in Iraq has cost almost 300 (b) billion dollars so
far and will total almost a half (t) trillion dollars even if all U-S
troops were withdrawn by the end of 2009.
Congress has approved 432 (b) billion for military operations and other
costs related to the war against terror since Nine-Eleven.
The new study by the Congressional Budget Office is the first analysis by the agency of how much of that has been allocated for the Iraq war.
The nonpartisan C-B-O analysis comes after congressional debate over whether to set goals or timetables for U-S troops to withdraw from Iraq. Congress has declined to set a timetable. But the Pentagon hopes to start drawing down forces by the end of the year.

“When historians pick up their pens and write about this period, let it be said that those of us in the Congress in 2006, we did the right thing.” Congressman John Lewis
We scored a major victory last evening when the House of Representatives passed H.R. 9 and voted to renew Sections 5, 203 and 6-9 of the Voting Rights Act by an overwhelming 390-33 vote. Although a majority of the Republican members voted to eliminate the Act’s language assistance provisions, the House ultimately rejected all the amendments offered by right-wing members to weaken the Act.

Wednesday, July 12, 2006
Of all people, the man who started the PlameGate act of treason, Robert “The Traitor” Novak is now claiming that the investigation of him (but not the prosecution of Libby) is officially over.
In a just released column, Novak asserts that “Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald has informed my attorneys that, after two and one-half years, his investigation of the CIA leak case concerning matters directly relating to me has been concluded.”
What a shame. The guy is a partisan journalistic hack who endangered America’s national security at the behest of the Busheviks.
Novak says that Bill Harlow, a CIA public information officer confirmed Valerie Plame’s identity. Novak also, as was previously known, reveals that Rove was also a source.
While admitting differences in the recollections of his conversations, Novak does not discuss Harlow’s adamant claim that he warned Novak not to publish Plame’s name or CIA status. As the Washington Post reported:
“Harlow, the former CIA spokesman, said in an interview yesterday that he testified last year before a grand jury about conversations he had with Novak at least three days before the column was published. He said he warned Novak, in the strongest terms he was permitted to use without revealing classified information, that Wilson’s wife had not authorized the mission and that if he did write about it, her name should not be revealed.
Harlow said that after Novak’s call, he checked Plame’s status and confirmed that she was an undercover operative. He said he called Novak back to repeat that the story Novak had related to him was wrong and that Plame’s name should not be used.”
It should also be noted that Rove was fired from the Bush the First staff for leaking to Novak.
It’s a shame Bob isn’t spending any time in jail. He certainly deserves it.
Because he betrayed the national security interests of the United States.

In a heated debate with Shimon Peres during a Knesset meeting, about America’s support of Israel, this statement was made:
“Every time we do something, you [Shimon Peres] tell me America will do this and will do that… I want to tell you something very clear: Don’t worry about American pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it.”
~ Ariel Sharon, Israeli Prime Minister
(as reported on Kol Yisrael radio)
Israeli Knesset, Tel Aviv
October 3, 2001
This is an excellent quote and puts a lot of stuff into perspective:
“Every time anyone says that Israel is our only
friend in the Middle East, I can’t help but think that before Israel,
we had no enemies in the Middle East.”
—John Sheehan, S.J.
A One-Sided War
By URI AVNERY
“For most Israelis, this is another chapter in the long war against “Palestinian terrorism”. Again our brave soldiers are obliged to face the vile Palestinian murderers, who aim to throw us into the sea. Again we fight because “there is no alternative”. As Yitzhak Shamir once famously said: “The Arabs are the same Arabs and the sea is the same sea!”
For the other side, this is a heroic stand of their finest sons against an evil and vicious enemy. One of the strongest armies in the world, equipped with the most up-to-date weaponry, is deployed against a handful of untrained fighters with primitive arms. Fighter planes, helicopter gunships, heavy tanks, artillery, missile boats, armored bulldozers and night-vision sights – all against Kalashnikovs and RPGs (light anti-tank weapons). A Palestinian Massada.
The struggle between the Palestinian militias is giving way to a new unity against the common enemy. Already on the eve of the operation, Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas agreed with Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah to accept the “prisoners’ paper”, which de facto recognizes Israel within the Green Line border. Now, in the heat of battle, Fatah members clamor to join the Hamas fighters in the struggle against the invader, and the remnants of Abbas’ influence are fading.
If the Israeli government carries out its public threats to kill the Palestinian Prime Minister and his ministers, Hamas will only emerge strengthened. The place of the martyrs will be filled by new leaders from among the fighters, and the Palestinians will close ranks behind them.”....

Howard Zinn
“Professor Zinn writes with an enthusiasm rarely encountered in the
leaden prose of academic history, and his text is studded with telling
quotations from labor leaders, war resisters, and fugitive slaves.
There are vivid descriptions of events that are usually ignored, such
as the great railroad strike of 1877 and the brutal suppression of the
Philippine independence movement at the turn of the last century.
Professor Zinn’s chapter on Vietnam – bringing to life once again the
free-fire zones, secret bombings, massacres, and cover-ups = should be
required reading for a new generation of students.”
Eric Foner, New York Times Book Review

BuzzFlash.com’s Review (excerpt)
John Dean is a man who went through an epiphany as a result of
Watergate, and, in response, has become one of the most astute
commentators on how “authoritarian” Republicans, as he calls them, are
violating the law.
Dean still considers himself a bit of a conservative, in that he believes in the rule of law, the Constitution, the balance of powers, privacy, freedom and the Declaration of Independence. In that sense, BuzzFlash is conservative too.
Isn’t it odd how things have come full circle: to
believe in the American Constitution is to be a true conservative? So
liberals, progressives and independents have become conservatives, and
the Busheviks who call themselves “conservative” have become radical
followers of a cult that believes itself above the law and the
decisions made by voters, legislators and the courts.

Allons y, tout le monde!
The Storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789 was an important symbolic development in the French Revolution. Although at the time the Bastille contained only seven prisoners, its taking marked the beginning of open rebellion against the king. The first anniversary of the event was celebrated by holding the Fête de la Fédération. The Fête de la Fédération is itself commemorated each year in France in an event known in English as Bastille Day, France’s national holiday.
